All Used Up

Lately, I’ve been in a constant state of trying to get rid of stuff. We live in a really small place. Really small. Which could be part of why I’m always wanting to downsize. The place isn’t super cramped or anything, I just don’t like having stuff that I don’t need/like. I still have a ways to go in downsizing my beauty stash. I find reading these posts to be really helpful and creating my own is nice for keeping track of what I like and what I don’t. I’ll probably have enough stuff for a new post soon! I took these photos quite a while ago when some of them still had product left. They are all empty now, so I thought it was time to finally post! Here’s what I’ve used up and what I thought about everything.

The Great stuff: Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup – I’ve only owned a few liquid foundations in my life, but this one seemed pretty nice! I’ll prob try again someday. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB – I really liked this! Was great for winter, so I’ll probably get it again then. Origins VitaZing – also great! Similar to the Maybelline BB, but much more expensive. Will stick to the Maybelline. Philosophy Hope in a Tube – I actually noticed a difference in the morning when I used this, so I did purchase another Philosophy kit, which included a larger tube of this.

The Good: Kiehl’s Creme de Corps: This was a gift that I savored for almost a year! I love it and really want to get more! Great scent and consistency. FAB Ultra Repair Cream: I was excited about this because I thought it would be good for my sensitive skin. It was really nice, but since I was alternating it with the Kiehl’s…it just didn’t compare! L’Occitane Hand Cream: Have been using these for years and will continue! Olay Sensitive Skin Foaming Face Wash: This was fine and it was cheap. It somehow got filled with water in the shower though and was kind of useless. I used it to clean brushes for a while, but eventually tossed it.

The OK: ion Deep Daily Conditioning for Color: I wouldn’t mind having a full bottle of this! It has a similar almondy scent to Creme de Corps, which I’m addicted to. Garnier and L’Oreal conditioners (came with boxed hair color): Not much to say about these. Conditioners that come with hair color always seem to feel nice! LUSH Buffy: Such a nice treat for a pamper night. A little rough on the skin and might be bad for your drain, but makes your skin feel awesome right out of the shower.

Would I buy these again?: Revlon Brow Fantasy: Probably not, but it’s wonderful for travel. Great Lash Clear: Yes. L’Oreal Lineur Intense: Yes. Sugar Lip Balm: No. Enjoyed the freebie though! Maybelline Color Tattoo in Too Cool: No! Not a fan, but I used it under my brow anyway. L’Oreal Power Volume Mascara: No, it dried out in a really weird way…Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen: Probably not, but I would like to try another brand. L’Oreal Liquid Pencil Eyeliner: Maybe, don’t have much of an opinion. It’s soft and very pigmented, so I guess it’s good!

The Bad: LUSH Breath of Fresh Air: No! Refreshing, but didn’t enjoy using it and let it expire. Benefit Posy Tint: No, too scented and makes my skin look irritated. Hard Candy Glamoflage: No, too heavy and has a weird scent. Revlon Balm Stain in Charm: No. Bad color for me and don’t like wearing the product in general. NYX Cream Blush: I thought this was breaking me out so I tossed it. ELF 6-Eyeshadow Palette: No. I got this on sale and thought it would be nice for travel, but the colors didn’t show : ( Coty Airspun Face Power: Too scented and a pain to use.

Seche Vite Clear Coat: No, great stuff, but I hear it’s not great for your nails. Bobbi Brown Eye Cream: Probably not, but I really liked the sample for travel! LUSH Sweet Lips: No. Tastes good, but I never used it and it dried out. Clinque Take the Day Off: Maybe, but I’ll try others first. Olay Age Defying Night Cream: Yes/maybe, I like it, but will try other first because I didn’t like the scent. Psssst! Dry Shampoo: Yes. La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo: Not sure, I was excited to try the sample, not sure if it’s worth all the hype though. Aveeno Detoxifying Scrub: No.

Bye bye stuff! That was a lot…I didn’t realize how much I like L’Oreal stuff until now! What are your must-haves?

Grocery Groove

I returned from a school related trip on Sunday night. It was a quick and easy trip and I’m glad it’s over with. Even though I didn’t have much to do to prepare for it, I felt like there was some mysterious wall that I couldn’t move past until the trip was behind me. My first order of business upon my return was to get a really good nights sleep. I was sharing a hotel room with a few other girls and had a really hard time falling asleep every night. Something about being in a silent room with people I’m not used to staying with made it really hard, I guess!

Anyway, the second order of business was to get back into the grocery shopping groove. I ran across the street to Whole Foods in hopes of getting inspired to do some meal planning. Every time I’m in an airport I get the urge to eat salad. I think all the traveling just makes me feel gross and sluggish, which makes me feel like I need to eat healthy. So, that was my mindset and I lucked with some pretty good sales! I love the Naked green juice, but it’s always so expensive. There was a really good deal on the big jug so I snatched it up as a special treat. Even though it’s not as portable this way, I feel like it tastes better straight from the fridge to a glass! Even an airport induced salad craving can’t stop me from snacks and sweets though. My Whole Foods started selling Ben & Jerry’s AND it was on sale. If WF is cool with me eating something as ‘normal’ as cookie dough Ben & Jerry’s then it must be healthy, right?

Black + Gold Favorites

I found the coolest toothbrush ever. Ok, I’m sure there are way fancier ones out there, but I was pretty excited when I spotted these black and gold toothbrushes at TJ Maxx. There’s definitely no reason that I need a shiny, $8, made in Italy toothbrush! That’s what’s great about TJ Maxx. You find things that you definitely don’t need, but it’s half off so I might as well buy two, right? The cashier was baffled when I brought these to the register! This isn’t the only black and gold purchase I’ve made in the past few weeks. I was cleaning out my desk today and noticed just how out of hand the theme is getting. So here are some of my latest black and gold finds!

DSC_1946I’ll be sad when I run out of these! I haven’t been able to find them online.

DSC_1930I got  this Russell + Hazel mini binder on sale at the art supply store. They had so many cool items in the sale, but I restrained myself. It was tough! I got the weekly planner filler pages to keep track of assignments and such.

I had to get some matching, giant paper clips too! These were a couple bucks from Staples.

DSC_1926This definitely isn’t a recent find! Maybe you’ve noticed them in my little profile picture up above? I saw them sitting next to the binder in my desk and realized this obsession is taking over. I always get questions about these when I’m at the airport! I got them on Amazon, but I’ve also seen them at Urban Outfitters and recently American Apparel online.

Craft Store Haul

DSC_1736Every time I go to the craft store I feel super motivated to start new projects and (finally) finish old ones. On my last two trips to the craft store I stocked up on clay jewelry supplies and surprisingly, kitchen things (who knew?!). I usually wait to stock up on stuff like this until I see a good sale. I found some good deals on both trips! I brought some of this back from Colorado, which is why it’s all still in the packaging. I find way better deals on clay and jewelry findings back in Colorado, but I found some pretty cheap tools out here! They don’t have the fun $2 aisle that I love though!  Here’s what I got and how I’m planning to use it.

DSC_1737Two boring colors, but staples! I saw a buy one get one 50% off sale and had to get something, but my brother set me up with pretty much every color I need! These are some that I run out of quickly.

DSC_1739I always borrow my mom’s round nose pliers and finally got some of my own for just $3. This $3 pack of tweezer tools seems useful for picking up delicate pieces. The metal scraper tool was something like $0.78 and the thick plastic sheets were about a $1 each. I went to check out the cutting mats because mine is a little beat up, but got these sheets instead. I wanted some kind of perfectly flat and easy to clean surface for rolling my clay on. I’ll see how these go!

DSC_1744Can never have enough of these! I think they were also buy one get one half off.

DSC_1748Cool kitchen stuff! We love having these straws around for sodas. Each pack was only $2! Couldn’t pass that up. I think I’m going to fill the tins with spices – only $1.50 each! The cardboard book is for a recipe booklet I want to make. Will post on it when I do!

Friday Favorite :: Texas Pride

Happy Friday! Today I’m just posting one really cool favorite. I saw these Kris Nations pendants online a few weeks ago and really wanted one, but couldn’t decide on a state (I’ve lived in a bunch!). I would consider Colorado my home, but ya know…Colorado isn’t the most interestingly shaped state. Last week Paul actually pointed out a bowl of these at Nordstrom and I was so excited to see them in person! I was most drawn to California and Texas simply because they look awesome. I was born in Texas, so I figured why not sport my birthplace around my neck?! I only lived there for like 6 months, but it’s still significant I’d say! I love wearing this necklace. I like that it’s delicate, but also intricate. The quality is great, the chain is a nice length and it also comes in either silver or gold. Plus, you get to take it home in a cute little test tube! What state would most want to display around your neck? DSC_1496 DSC_1503 DSC_1507I’ve never used a clasp like this. It’s really handy!

Friday Favorites

Pretty much all of my favorites this week are gifts that I received for Christmas. I can’t pick a favorite – I love everything I got! Here are some of the pictures I remembered to snap.

:: my old pair of bunny slippers were very sad looking…these are so cute! ::

:: I love the dots, I love the black and white, I love the city names. I love it! (from Madewell) ::

:: is this not the coolest Harry Potter shirt you’ve ever seen?? ::

:: my gifted ornament for this year reflects my weird interest in butchery. Can’t decide if this pig is cute or creepy ::

:: totally obsessed! Chanel Wild Rose and Gabrielle ::

:: I love this Mondo tote bag! I usually carry around a red tote bag day-to-day, but this one is so much cooler. (Mondo is from Denver and Project Runway and he’s the coolest) ::

20130104-141226.jpg:: I’ve been planning and planning to do posts about my clay projects. I will eventually, but I’m putting together a big project that I’m waiting to post until I’ve made more progress! These new clay tools have made my clay crafting soooo much easier (and fun) ::

Friday Finds :: Day After Xmas Shopping

DSC_1097Going shopping on the day after Christmas has become a pretty solid tradition around here. I always look forward to browsing the sales, even when I don’t have anything in mind that I need. This year, I kind of wanted to get some new sneakers, but didn’t have a whole lot of luck with that. The purchase I’m most excited about is the First Aid Beauty kit I picked up from Sephora. The funny thing is, I came really close to getting one for myself, my mom and my sister for Christmas and then we all ended up buying one on our shopping trip! I had heard really good things about the brand and then the Sephora employee gave a rave review, so I was officially sold. A few days in and I’m loving this stuff!

My best bargain award goes to the folded base tote bag I got from H&M. It’s from the Maison Martin Margiela collection, which I didn’t know much about and assumed had long been sold out. This bag was thrown in with all the other totes and marked down to…$20! I honestly don’t think I would have noticed it if it weren’t for the red sale sticker and I certainly wouldn’t have bought it for the original $199! A (kind of weird) leather bag for $20 was too good to pass up. I think it will make for a good airport bag. Did any of you brave the crowds after Christmas? Any good bargains??

DSC_1102      :: yes, it is very tempting to try to unfold the bottom! ::

DSC_1114      :: a few little goodies. Necklace and nails from Forever 21. Glitter polish from a drugstore run on the way home ::

20121228-172641.jpg      :: necklace in action ::

:: heeeeeey guys! :-p Cozy flannel from J.Crew ::

Friday Finds :: The Two Best Things

It’s no secret that I love sporting cutesy animal gear. I’ve been doing so since I was a little girl (maybe I’ll find some pictures when I’m home?), but I took a long hiatus. I started rebuilding my collection a couple of years ago and now… I’ve found the two best things.

I got an Ipad a few of weeks ago and totally love it. Then I found this amazing bunny sleeve at West Elm for only $14.00! It kind of matches a bunny sweatshirt that I already have and I just knew I needed to get it. They have a fox laptop and owl phone sleeve too. I love the bunny one best, but it would be super fun to have the whole set!

OK, and then there’s this polka dot cat sweater. I actually saw a woman wearing this on the street a while back and literally did a double take. I wanted it right then and there, but had no idea where to get it. THEN I saw Taylor Swift wearing it, which made my hunt much easier. I got it on a great sale and am sooo happy to have it.

:: I think we need a closeup of this cat cuteness ::

:: Cute overload? A perfect pair ::

:: This sleeve is perfect. I highly recommend it! ::

Grocery Haulin’ :: Kiddie Food

I love grocery shopping. Sometimes I go with no plan and sometimes I write a full list. This week I knew I needed eggplant, mushrooms and apples, but then embarrassing things just magically appeared in my basket, heh. Yep, there’s a Lunchable and a box of Cap’n Crunch hidden in there. Sure I could have removed those and pretended that I’m a really healthy shopper, but let’s keep it real here. I’m a huge cereal fan and pretty typically eat it twice a day. Something plain and crunchy for breakfast and something super sweet (and made for kids) at night. And those Lunchables were on sale for a dollar and I hadn’t had one in a real long time and sometimes you just get a desire to pretend you’re on a 2nd grade field trip. Excuses, excuses. Maybe my next grocery haul will be a little more sophisticated…
