Dad’s Corner

20130623-140603.jpg

It seems like after every family celebration I get to write a post about how I surprised so-and-so with a visit. Sadly, this isn’t one of those posts. I didn’t buy a plane ticket home for Father’s Day even though I really, really wanted to! I’m trying to save up for future visits and such and I had just been home a month ago. I got to feel semi-included though with a FaceTime call and a group text convo complete with picture updates. Dad got a special meal, of course, but as always, the ‘puppy brother’ tends to take over everything. I tried to keep this balanced though and limited the puppy pictures to just two!

I mentioned last time I was home that there has been a casual competition to ‘make the blog,’ which I think dad has already won with his enthusiasm alone! SO, in honor of dad, this is Dad’s Corner. I missed a good meal! They barely had time to digest all of this before my mom and dad were off to ALASKA the next day! I’m so glad they got to go on a trip they’ve been dreaming of for so long to celebrate a very special anniversary. Us kids are so fortunate to have great parents that have taught us that it’s important to work hard and do great things but also how equally important it is to have a sense of humor and see as much of the world as possible! Oops, mom kind of snuck in on Dad’s Corner somehow! I hope dad can deal with that…I really wanted to include a picture of his famous (and probably record breaking) soft serve ice cream cone towers. The only one I could find from my own camera is the first one we ever took and it looks pretty wimpy. Since then, he has really perfected the art. Uh oh, I smell a Dad’s Corner part 2. 20130623-140616.jpg

I had to throw in a cool picture from another past anniversary (I think) in honor of the most recent one! All you need is love. : )

This is our puppy brother taking over the whole phone chat and looking right at me! haha! 20130623-140630.jpg

And here he is getting ready to be shipped off to visit me. Why so sad? No overnight shipping for this pup. : P

A Video For Ozzie

It’s a very special day, y’all! Sorry, sometimes my southern roots come out when I’m excited. Today is Ozzie’s FIRST birthday. I can’t believe it! I remember the day he got to come home with us like it was yesterday. Of course, I haven’t gotten to be around him as often as I’d like, which could be why the time has flown by so quickly for me. We did spend a lot of quality time together when I was home in January though. I decided to test out the video on my camera and had a lot of fun following him around and bugging him with a lens in his face.

I’ve loved making videos ever since I was in elementary school. A neighborhood friend broke her arm one summer, so I spent practically every day making ‘movies’ (that were basically inspired by our favorite movies) with her since she couldn’t go to the pool. It wasn’t until I moved away for college that I started playing around with video editing again. I set video clips of my move to music and sent them to family so that they could see what I was up to. I have been really excited to start creating some video content for this ole blog. I have two others in progress and am glad that I finally got around to editing this snowy footage. I hope Ozzie likes watching himself and I hope he has the best day ever. I hear he might be making his first trip to the dog park! Wish I were going to be there to film what I’m sure will be an adorable and hilarious trip. Happy birthday, Ozzie! And now for a whole ton of pictures.

Family Game Night

DSC_1514I can hardly wait for my next trip to Colorado. I’ve been searching for flights and hoping for a good deal to pop up. It’s so annoyingly expensive to fly between Boston and Denver! I was also searching through all the photos that I have saved for blog posts (that will be written soon!) and found these from January. If you remember my week in the basement, this is one way we kept ourselves entertained. Game nights don’t happen nearly enough! Have any of you played Imaginiff? It’s pretty fun! We added our dog (the real star of this post), the prez, and a favorite football coach to fill in our board of question subjects. That made it even more entertaining!

Snowy Snaps

DSC_1964

The past few days have felt very similar to when Hurricane Sandy visited Boston. Everyone in town was stocking up on bread, water, and cookies (or was that one just me?). Luckily, just like Sandy, Nemo didn’t wipe out our power or anything. We don’t have a car here, so digging out wasn’t a big issue either. And thank you MBTA for getting the public transit running so well today! I kind of tried to downplay the hype in my mind because being from Colorado, it feels like everyone freaks out a little more here. I can’t imagine schools being closed days in advance or driving bans put in place! Every channel we have was reporting on snow and only snow all day (we only have like 4 channels, but still). They were pretty darn accurate with the predictions though! We ventured out on Saturday after it finally stopped snowing to snap some pics and check out the aftermath. City snow storms sure are different from the suburban storms I’m used to. I can understand the freak-outs a little more now! No garages to hide your car in around here! It was so weird to walk around the quiet streets. It was also fun to be surrounded by other curious wanderers, families heading to sledding hills, and dedicated car owners already digging their spots out. It seems like most people made the best of it and had a nice time with friends and neighbors. Of course, today was a bit of a different story. Slush, sidewalk mazes, and rain…yes, rain! Such a ‘well at least it’s not raining’/dark cloud moment.

Insta What?

20130210-141839.jpgI don’t usually have such a hard time coming up with post titles. It’s hard for me to even start writing a post if I haven’t come up with a title first. This is an Instagram post…there are lots of ways “Insta” can play into a title phrase. Too many. I like rhyming, I like alliteration, I like cheesy. So many opportunities, but none of them seem original. What do you think? If you were titling this post, what would you choose?? I would love to know!

It’s been a week mostly dedicated to organizing, preparing for a blizzard, and using said blizzard as an excuse to eat like a child. I was pretty busy the first half of the week with school/work things. The weekend has been very slow and relaxing, which I don’t mind at all! I’ll be continuing the laziness by watching the Grammy’s, snacking all day, and possibly tending to my hair…Have a good night!20130210-141854.jpgAw, she is getting so big! Do any of you remember her from my New Year post?? She’s not mine, but I take her and her sister for walks every week. They give me a good dose of Golden Retriever while I’m away from home! 20130210-141913.jpgWhen you don’t have to worry about driving/digging out your car, a storm is just a good excuse to lounge and eat junk food. 20130210-141921.jpgGood morning, Nemo. Christmas Day Snapshots

DSC_1040

Noooo Christmas is over! I hope you all had a great day with your loved ones. Christmas day is usually a very low-key, relaxing day for us and this year was no exception. We started the morning with cinnamon rolls and berries (have I blogged about cinnamon rolls enough lately??). Then presents! I love picking out gifts, especially at Christmas time! Anybody else agree that boys are extremely hard to shop for though? We lounged around, snacked, and colored in our Pj’s the rest of the day. It’s the perfect way to prepare for after Christmas shopping, am I right? : )

I also want to say a quick thanks to YOU. It’s been super fun chatting with some of you and finding lots of really cool blogs over the past few months. Looking forward to more in 2013!
